TPC History Timeline
Take a step back in time to when the first TPC club was opened in 1980 and all of the TPC Network’s milestones along the way, from club openings to TOUR events held. Today, the Network boasts over 30 clubs and hosts an average of 15 events annually across the PGA TOUR.



TPC Sawgrass Established

TPC Sawgrass opened October of 1980. The club was born from the dream of then PGA TOUR Commissioner Deane Beman to create a special and unique host site for THE PLAYERS Championship.

The first year THE PLAYERS Championship held at TPC Sawgrass, which now boasts not only the strongest field, but also the biggest purse on the PGA TOUR.

Travelers Championship

1984 marks the first year Travelers Championship was held at TPC River Highlands, then called the Sammy Davis Jr. Greater Hartford Open.

First known as Middletown Golf Club in 1928 and later as Edgewood Country Club, TPC River Highlands’ par-70, 6,841-yard course was completely redesigned by the legendary Pete Dye in 1982.

TPC Potomac Established
TPC Potomac Established
Formerly know as TPC Avenel, TPC Potomac opened in 1986 and has played host to multiple TOUR events including the Kemper Open, FBR Capital Open, Booz Allen Classic, and Quicken Loans National. It will host the 2021 Wells Fargo Championship.

TPC Scottsdale Established
TPC Scottsdale Established
The Stadium Course at TPC Scottsdale has hosted some of contemporary golf’s greatest moments since opening in 1986. The course was designed by Jay Morrish and Tom Weiskopf specifically to serve as the stage for the tournament – what’s now become the largest spectator golf event in the world.

The first tournament ever held at TPC Potomac was the Kemper Open in 1987.

Waste Management Phoenix Open

This was the first year “The People’s Open” was held at TPC Scottsdale (Formerly Phoenix Open when held in 1987).

TPC Southwind Established
TPC Southwind Established
TPC Southwind’s par-70, 7,244-yard championship layout was designed by noted architect Ron Prichard, with PGA TOUR players Hubert Green and Fuzzy Zoeller serving as consultants. It has played host to the TOUR’s annual WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational, formerly the FedEx St. Jude Classic and Memphis Open, since 1989.

The first year WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational was held at TPC Southwind (formerly the FedEx St. Jude Classic).

TPC Summerlin Established

TPC Summerlin’s par-72, 7,243-yard layout was carved from a magnificent swath of rugged desert terrain by renowned golf course architect Bobby Weed with PGA TOUR veteran Fuzzy Zoeller serving as a consultant.

1992 was the first year this tournament was held at TPC Summerlin (co-hosted with two other courses).
U.S. Amateur at TPC Sawgrass
U.S. Amateur at TPC Sawgrass
In 1994, the United States Golf Association held the U.S. Amateur on THE PLAYERS Stadium Course and Dye’s Valley Course.

TPC Las Vegas hosted tournaments

From 1996-2006, TPC Las Vegas has hosted the Las Vegas Senior Classic, Bard Capital Challenge and the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open.

TPC Las Vegas was designed by Bobby Weed in consultation with TOUR professional Raymond Floyd, and opened in 1996.
TPC Sugarloaf Established
TPC Sugarloaf Established
Designed by Greg Norman, TPC Sugarloaf offers 27 holes of championship golf. The property’s history dates back to 1912, when it was owned by the Rollins family to breed award-winning Tennessee walking horses. The club has hosted the PGA TOUR Champions’ Mitusbishi Electric Classic (formerly the Greater Gwinnett Championship) since 2013.

TPC Jasna Polana’s history dates back to the early 1970s, as the country home of J. Seward Johnson and his wife, Barbara. When the decision was made to convert this magnificent private estate, Mrs. Johnson and her family partnered with the PGA TOUR’s TPC Network to create a stunning Gary Player-designed masterpiece that opened as a golf club in 1998.

TPC Deere Run was designed as a stadium course by D. A. Weibring Golf Resources, in association with PGA TOUR Design Services.

John Deere Classic First Held
John Deere Classic at TPC Deere Run
The John Deere Classic was first held at TPC Deere Run in 2000. Since then, it has become a fan favorite winning PGA TOUR tournament of the year multiple times.

Instinet Classic Held at TPC Jasna Polana

TPC Jasna Polana is the former host of the Instinet Classic on PGA TOUR Champions (formerly Champions Tour).
TPC Twin Cities Established

Designed by the legendary Arnold Palmer, this 18-hole golf course features 235 acres of breathtaking countryside. The immaculate fairways and white sand bunkers provide every golf enthusiast an unforgettable experience.

Named by Golf Digest among the “Top 10 Best New Private Clubs in the U.S.” after it opened in 2001, the Arnold Palmer-designed golf course has continued to amaze. TPC River’s Bend has been host to the Korn Ferry Tour’s Chiquita Classic, as well as PGA TOUR Champions’ Kroger Classic.

3M Championship

The first year the 3M Championship a PGA TOUR Champions’ event, (formerly Champions Tour) was held at TPC Twin Cities.

Arnold Palmer hits inaugural tee shot at opening of TPC Boston in 2002. Originally designed by legendary player/designer Arnold Palmer, TPC Boston’s award-winning layout was re-designed in 2007 by Gil Hanse, with PGA TOUR player Brad Faxon serving as a consultant.

The first year TPC Boston held the Dell Technologies Championship (formerly Deutsche Bank Championship).

TPC Louisiana Established

Pete Dye stands on what will be the 18th fairway at TPC Louisiana. Dye worked in conjunction with TOUR players Steve Elkington and Kelly Gibson.

Zurich Classic of New Orleans

The first Zurich Classic of New Orleans held at TPC Louisiana was in 2005. The tournament along with its partner The Fore!Kids Foundation has raised over $18 million for charities since partnering with Zurich in 2005, benefitting over 100 charities serving thousands of children in need in the southeastern Louisiana region.

Valero Texas Open

TPC San Antonio has played host to the PGA TOUR’s Valero Texas Open since 2010.

Chiquita Classic

TPC River’s Bend hosted the Chiquita Classic on the Korn Ferry Tour (formerly Web.com Tour). It was played for the first time as the Chiquita Classic in July 2010 at TPC River’s Bend in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Charles Schwab Cup Championship

TPC Harding Park was the host of the PGA TOUR Champions’ Charles Schwab Cup Championship in 2010, 2011 and 2013. TPC Harding Park has also hosted many other tournaments such as the Presidents Cup, WGC-American Express Championship and WGC-Cadillac Match Play.

A Military Tribute at The Greenbrier

The first year A Military Tribute at The Greenbrier (formerly The Greenbrier Classic) was held at The Old White TPC.
In 2011, it was announced that The Old White is now The Old White TPC, joining the most prestigious golf courses in the nation within the PGA TOUR’s TPC Network.

Opening in 2010, TPC San Antonio features 36 holes designed by two of the world’s most talented and respected golf course architects: Pete Dye, considered by many the most influential golf course architect of the past five decades; and World Golf Hall of Fame member Greg Norman.

TPC Harding Park established
TPC Harding Park established
Formerly known as Harding Park Golf Club after avid golfer and former President Warren G. Harding, TPC Harding Park opened in 1925 and enjoys a storied history as a frequent PGA TOUR stop in the 1960s. TPC Harding Park joined the Network in 2010 and will host the Network’s first major in 2020.

TPC San Antonio hosted PGA TOUR Champions’ (formerly Champions Tour) AT&T Championship on Canyons Course from 2011-2015.
