SAN ANTONIO – JUNE 2, 2022 – TPC San Antonio, host of the PGA TOUR’s Valero Texas Open, is now the official home of the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) golf programs. As part of the ongoing 10-year agreement, both the men’s and women’s golf teams will practice and play at TPC San Antonio and The Learning Center.

“TPC San Antonio is honored to provide a golf home for these student-athletes,” said Matt Flory, General Manager of TPC San Antonio. “We began working with UTSA on this long-term partnership in 2016, and it is wonderful to see the vision come to life. Our TPC San Antonio staff and members are excited to welcome UTSA to our club for years to come.”

In addition to practice and play at The Learning Center and both courses, TPC San Antonio will house the study halls and team rooms for both the men’s and women’s teams. The Learning Center is a newly-constructed instructional building equipped with the latest golf technology, including Trackman and Swing Catalyst. It offers golf lessons to members, resort guests and the general public.

The partnership agreement also enables TPC San Antonio to host annual National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) golf tournaments. TPC San Antonio and UTSA, in conjunction with San Antonio Sports, will host a 2023 NCAA Women’s Golf Regional event.

“We are very proud of our partnership with TPC San Antonio and thrilled that we will get to call a first-class golf facility that hosts PGA TOUR events our home for the next decade,” said UTSA Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Lisa Campos. “Our golf teams have experienced much success over the past few years and these additions like The Learning Center, study hall and team room, which are made possible in part by the support of the Goodman family, will only help propel the programs to the next level in terms of recruiting and developing elite student-athletes on and off the course. This is a great day to be a Roadrunner and an exciting time for TPC San Antonio and our entire San Antonio community.”

The Membership at TPC San Antonio, alongside advocates in the local golf community plan to further assist in the UTSA partnership by hosting a fundraising event later this fall, benefitting both the men’s and women’s golf programs. BRE Hotels and Resorts, a Blackstone portfolio company and the owner of the JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa, built the world-class teaching facility and will play a key role in engaging the community as part of the long-term partnership.

“Community engagement is a vital part of our vision at BRE,” said Scott Spurlock, Senior Vice President, BRE Hotels and Resorts. “We are beyond thrilled to work with our members and community in supporting the UTSA golf programs at TPC San Antonio and the adjoining JW Marriott. This long-standing relationship helps bring attention to the UTSA golf program, the current student athletes, and future athletes to come.”

TPC San Antonio features 36 holes designed by two of the world’s most talented and respected golf course architects and World Golf Hall of Fame members: Pete Dye and Greg Norman. Working with TOUR player consultant Bruce Lietzke, Dye considered by many as the most influential golf course architect of the past five decades, crafted the par-72, 7,106-yard Canyons course while current TOUR player Sergio Garcia assisted Norman with the design of the par-72, 7,435-yard Oaks course.

Signature wide fairways, stately stands of oak and cedar trees, and panoramic views of the adjacent Cibolo Canyons create a breathtakingly beautiful and enjoyable challenge for scratch golfers and novices alike. This private resort club is a model of environmentally sound methods and practices, beginning with two well-planned, eco-friendly layouts. A closed-loop irrigation system, which ensures the protection of the Edwards Aquifer, supports the TPC Network’s vision of all courses designated as Audubon International Cooperative Sanctuary Systems.

The course is also connected to the 4-Diamond AAA, JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa, which has firmly established itself as the city’s premier luxury destination in Texas’ Hill Country.
